Information about addictions

Addictions

Addiction is a disease in which you have become physically and / or mentally dependent on a substance or a habit. Using a means or acting according to a habit no longer has to do with 'wanting' something, but with 'having to'. Addiction is a chronic and progressive, but fortunately also treatable disease.

What types of addictions are there?

We make a distinction between different types of addictions. The first type is addictions to substances or substances that have a direct effect on the brain. The second type is addictions to drugs, such as anti-anxiety and sleep aids. Finally, we distinguish behavioral addictions, such as gambling and sex addictions.

With substances that have a direct effect on the brain, we also speak of a physical addiction. With other substances and behavioral addictions we generally speak of mental addiction.
